Are You Moving Toward Something or Away From It?This past weekend I rode 50 miles in a bike ride called Pelotonia to raise money for cancer research.

It was exciting as we rode toward the finish line. In addition to raising money and awareness for a meaningful cause, I also accomplished a personal goal.

Training and waking up early to ride on weekends paid off. Because I was moving toward a goal, I was determined and enthusiastic.

Often, especially if we are in transition, we move away from something. If we don’t like our boss or the existing situation we want to run away. This can cause panic, stress and low energy.

When we have a goal, purpose, passion or desired outcome to move toward, our energy increases. We are more enthusiastic about doing what is necessary to make it happen.

  • Are there people, situations or places that you are moving away from?
  • What excites you to move toward?
  • What impact will this new space have?

Understanding the direction you are riding and the motivation behind it can help propel you to the finish line.
