Students are going back to school now. It can be both exciting and anxiety producing (for parents and children). The thrill of possibilities and new opportunities exists. At the same time so does the fear that often accompanies change.

As adults, any time we have a new experience it can feel like we are starting school again. Excitement coexists with the unknown. We may be worried if our work will be good enough, if we will fit into the culture or if others will like us.

Our two biggest concerns come to light: We want to look good and not look bad.

In school we have exams and teachers who grade us. In life, the tests are not always written and we get to have a say if we are good enough.

So whether you are starting a new class or beginning a new project, job or experience, remember that you made it through school. Trust that you have what it takes.
