Watching the Final Four playoffs this weekend was a lesson in leadership and determination.

Freshman players to seniors gave their all as they ran up and down the court switching from offense to defense.

Each player brings a different strength. The coach’s role is to help maximize the individual’s ability and create a unified team.

In addition, each coach has to adjust direction and strategy throughout the game based on the competition and events unfolding.

As a leader it is important to balance the desired results for the team with the individual attention given to developing each person and leveraging his/her potential.

  1. How well do you know your team members’ strengths and weaknesses?
  2. What do you do to maximize their abilities?
  3.  How often and how quickly do you evaluate the competition or circumstances and change direction as needed?

Creating a winning team requires:

  • Passion
  • Talented players and a customized plan for their individual development and
  •  An ability to rebound.
