Last night in a post Super Bowl locker room interview, Coach Bill Belichick of the New England Patriots said that he was disappointed over his team’s loss to the New York Giants.

This sentiment is completely understandable given his team’s opportunity to make history with a 19-0 season.

Disappointment comes when our expectations do not meet reality. This disconnect also causes stress. Most of us will not experience a Super Bowl loss. However, we do experience misaligned expectations and outcomes every day. Notice how it impacts you.

How clearly do you communicate expectations? How realistic are your desired results? What might you do to connect these two?

By fulfilling their dreams and creating joy, the Giants left the Patriots disappointed. This is true in life. When we are on our path and following our vision or plan, others may become disappointed. That is out of our control. Their expectations may not match reality.

So whichever side you are on, notice how expectations and outcomes align to impact the history that you are making.
