Over one hundred million of us watched the Seattle Seahawks play the New England Patriots in last night’s Super Bowl.

The most successful athletes visualize success. “I visualize success every day. I never visualize failure,” said Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson.

While some of us might question the play called in the last 30 seconds of the game, we can all take a lesson on visualizing from this playbook. Often we focus on the negative and what is missing. We overlook the positive things actually present in our desire to avoid failure or make a mistake. We worry about, “What if it doesn’t work out?” Ask yourself, “What if it does?”

We can SWAP™ our ineffective focus for powerful results.

Shareholder meetings occur in your head with many voices chiming in. Notice who attends and the air time and control you give them.

Words are important. Choose powerful ones. Eliminate those that generate stress and foster lack of commitment or collaboration. Example: but, try, should

Automatic negative thoughts create worry and anxiety. They inhibit our ability to get into action. Ask yourself how likely it is for this negative outcome to occur. Or get in the helicopter and off the tarmac to give your situation context.

Perspective plays a key role in success. Foster a growth mindset, ask powerful questions and eliminate drama in your theater of life.

We can shift our view from failure to success by SWAPing our ineffective focus. We are then prepared to win in any game we play.
