A new season of Bud Lite commercials is upon us. Yesterday, many of us watched the opening of the NFL regular football season.

Some of us are hoping for last season repeats and others cannot wait for a new start. Regardless of our position, the team dynamics will be different.

“If you don’t change every year, you lose,” says Dick LeBeau, defensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This is true for football teams and our organizations. In order to stay current, we must adapt to market conditions, be willing to take calculated risks, try new strategies and change personnel.

Football teams draft new players every season. They execute new plays, change players’ positions and deal with player injuries. Flexibility is necessary on and off the field.

Seth Godin, a marketing expert, says that if we keep the status quo, we die. When was the last time you thought about Kodak film, pac-man, eight track cartridges and mixed cassette tapes?

We often think of the downside of change. As a lifelong New Orleans Saints Super Bowl Champion fan (It is still hard to say that in the same line), I know that change can take time. It can also be a good thing.
