In celebrating the 4th of July this past week I have thought a lot about freedom. Freedom is having the ability to choose. It can be choosing what we say, voting for whom we want (or sometimes against who we don’t) or having the right to protest.

Another form of freedom which we do not think of often is forgiveness.

Forgiveness is both a choice and a way of freeing ourselves from grudges or hard feelings. It is like hitting the delete key. It removes clutter and distractions. We can move forward in a cleaner space.

Forgiveness is not forgetfulness. While it can be challenging, we can forgive without forgetting. Choice gives us freedom to create new possibilities.
