Halloween can be scary for kids. As adults we are often haunted by Halloween spirits throughout the year.

Ghosts, skeletons from the past and gremlins who make us second guess ourselves can show up anytime.

We let the gremlins make us feel inferior or inadequate. The ghosts haunt us with past experiences often preventing us from seeing things in a new light. Former bosses, failures, mistakes or comments told to us from the past linger.

There are three things we can do to help eliminate the demons.

  1. We can step back and look these things squarely in the eye. By distinguishing what was then and what is now, we can reframe.
  2. By asking, “What’s at risk?” we can identify fears and delve into what is happening.
  3.  We can also recognize the meaning we are attributing to a situation. These are the “tricks” our mind plays.

Shining a light on what is actually there instead of what we are imagining will make situations less scary.
