When I was in exercise class we did an exercise where you put a resistance band at your ankles and walk sideways around the gym.

It was a difficult exercise and I knew it would help my goal of toning and strengthening my legs. The longer we did it the harder it was to move my legs and step sideways.

Not only did the exercise bands create resistance, but my mind and body could have stopped me if I had let them. I was committed to my goal.

When we have a goal we frequently meet resistance. There are three kinds that impact us.

  1. Mental: What do you tell yourself? What is your self-talk?
  2. Emotional: How do you feel about the situation?
  3. Physical: What steps are you actually taking to bring your goal and vision to fruition?

All three of these resistance modes can manifest when working toward an outcome. Being aware of them and having clarity on your desired end result can lighten the load.

The resistance bands helped me to stretch and get in better shape. Sometimes stretching can be good for us.
