My husband recently bought a car. In the model he purchased there are several drive modes. We can put the car in sport, drive or eco mode and shift between gears as we desire.

Sport is fast and zippy, drive is comfort and eco is more fuel efficient with less pep. Each mode has its place depending on the situation we are in and our desired outcome.

What is your preferred mode as you drive through life each day?

Are you a race car driver? Do you run in fast gear constantly with revved up RPMs? Many of us talk quickly, interrupt others to move them along and are impatient when we have to wait for services or other peoples’ thoughts We go from 0-100 in less than 60 seconds.

Life, like driving, is not full speed or nothing. There is also a place for gears 1, 2 and 3 and a value to slowing down. We can appreciate what is around us and experience it more fully.

And we can be present with others to connect and truly hear them. Sport mode can sometimes be noisy.

While having drive can be an asset, how we drive is important. Having the flexibility to shift between gears can make the ride optimal.
