Today is a day when most of us take a break from work.

It is good to have a formal day off. The annual Labor Day holiday causes us to pause. For some of us that means relaxing while for others it gives us time to run errands or get caught up around the house. Still others continue to work.

Whatever you choose to do, I encourage you to step back and think about these questions:

  1. How do you feel about the work you are doing?
  2. What do you do to create downtime? How frequently do you take it?
  3. What are you most proud of during this past year? What would you like to accomplish in the upcoming year?

We “labor” to get results. Getting results takes a combination of positivity and productivity. Stepping back to assess our optimism, passion and ability to rejuvenate fuels positivity. Reviewing our accomplishments and desired goals fuels productivity.

Labor Day is a good time to review the balance between these two realms. I encourage you to do it every day, not just today.
