On Memorial Day we remember those men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice defending our country.

It is also a time to honor the families who have lost their loved ones and must carry on.

I recently learned about a group of military widows who bonded together and supported each other in various activities from playing sports and sky diving to raising money for charity.

They were inspiring. It struck me how, in the face of such tragedy, they connected, depended on each other and collaborated together to carry on. They used the leadership skills their spouses implemented in the military.

When crisis came they rallied with one another and did not go it alone. As can happen when we face a negative circumstance, we can either succumb to depression and possible stagnation or move forward into a new chapter.

By living courageously and with a commitment to carry on, these women honored those whom they loved and the country they served.

This tip is in memory of those who lost their lives serving our country and in honor of their families who are carrying on in their absence.
