I love the navigation system in my car. I have learned to trust it and it teaches me new ways to travel to familiar destinations. It reminds me of teamwork for the following reasons.

  1. Setting Expectations I set an expectation and desired outcome (the address). It then charts a course to get the result.
  2. Choices When I set the desired destination, the system gives me three possible routes. I then pick which one I want. It gives me different perspectives to a solution.
  3. Communication The system is constantly communicating with me. It shows me visually what to expect on the upcoming road. It also talks to me to ensure I am heading in the correct direction. In addition, if it cannot do the job (find the address), it tells me.
  4. Feedback I get feedback when I am going in the wrong direction. The system tells me how to get back on course or recalibrates based on my new direction.
  5. Trust I have finally learned to trust that the system will take me the fastest way. I rarely override it because it has taught me new routes and roads.

Navigating through the marketplace can be a challenge. When your team operates like a navigation system, it makes the ride that much smoother.
