Saturday night I watched my hometown New Orleans Saints beat the Detroit Lions in the NFC Wildcard football game.

It was evident that the Saints played to win as they attempted three fourth down conversions and made each one.

They gave their all. They did not play the safe moves of punting or kicking a field goal instead of going for the touchdown.

In life, some of us play to win and some of us play not to lose. The former is often riskier than the latter.

Playing to win means we have to know what we want, take action and chances. Combining these three can stop some of us since they require clarity, courage and stepping out of our comfort zone.

We also have to be willing to accept loss. Playing not to lose usually means being safe and settling for less than what we truly desire. Sometimes our satisfaction level is diminished.

As you look at both your personal and business life, how are you playing?

  • Are you pleased with your strategy?
  • If not, what would it take to shift?
  • Who would you need to be, what characteristics would you have to possess and what support would assist you?

Like the Saints team, when we play to win we have the satisfaction of knowing we gave our all and did our best. And very often a victory! WHO DAT!!!
