Resolution. The word brings to mind starting over, new beginnings and hope. Re Solution. Are you re-doing the same solution year in and year out? Are you starring in Resolution Part 2?

We make promises about our health, diets and attitudes. We’ll exercise more, eat better, lose 10 pounds and be more patient. Dustin Hoffman makes resolutions about his body every year. Jay Leno does not believe in them.

Often we commit to the same goals year in and year out. We get frustrated when we do not accomplish them. They usually require willpower and we have a limited supply.

What if you tried a new approach this year? What if you developed a theme for the year around which to center your life? Ally McBeal, the TV lawyer, often had theme songs. The Chinese year is named after an animal.

Having a purpose will lead to success. The theme becomes your focus inspiring you to take actions in its support. This approach means that you are moving toward something, rather than denying yourself or relying on willpower.

You could create the year of health, lifestyle, joy or patience. Then the steps that you take will align with this bigger commitment. Share your theme with family and friends. Ask them to hold you accountable and support you.

By having a cast of supporting actors and a theme, you can direct your own life. Then next year will be starring in Resolution Resolved instead of Resolution Part 3.

Wishing you joy, health and prosperity in the new year!
