Remembering September 11, 2001 with a day of service was an inspiring idea.

As I watched the remembrance ceremonies, speakers talked about the family members they had lost. They elaborated on the heroism displayed that day.

One speaker noted that it wasn’t how his brother died but how he lived that he wanted to remember. By living like his brother, with courage, compassion and character, he would honor his brother’s legacy.

It is easy to forget events when they are not on the front page or TV daily. While it is important to continue to move forward, it is a good time to reflect on how we are living our lives.

Are we focusing on what is most important? Do we give time to what we say we value? Let us not forget that how we live our lives is a way to honor those no longer here. It is also a way to impact future generations.
