By now most of us have heard of Susan Boyle, the newly discovered Scottish singing sensation who appeared on Britain’s Got Talent last week.

Ms. Boyle is a 47-year-old single woman who has never been kissed and says that she looks like a garage.

Eyes rolled as she stepped on stage to perform. Once her mouth opened, an angelic voice rang out. Jaws dropped as both audience members and the judges were visibly astounded. Both changed their tunes.

In short, she was MAGNIFICENT! She has since gotten over 12 million views on U Tube and offers for recording contracts. She has become an international overnight sensation. She says that she is humbled and been “God smacked.”

Things are not often as they appear. We tend to judge quickly and on first blush. In no time we attribute motive or meaning to a situation based on our own beliefs. We are often incorrect.

Sometimes an idea might not resonate immediately. Listening closely or letting it percolate may cause us to change our minds.

Ms. Boyle is an inspiration. She truly reminds us that we cannot “judge a book by its cover.” Take time to look deeper and see what is inside.
