“Step into the ball,” my tennis teacher shouts from across the court. “Don’t fall backwards or else you have no chance of hitting the ball over the net.”

This lesson came to mind recently as I was coaching a client. Falling backwards is the equivalent of reacting.  We are off balance and do not step forward into a situation. We feel out of control.

When we step into the ball we are being proactive. We put our weight and our full selves into an experience. Our results are better because we plan and are intentional and confident.
