Don Hewitt, creator of the TV show, 60 Minutes, recently passed away. In his own words, the premise of the show was, “Tell me a story.” The show has remained popular for more than three decades.

People like stories. In addition to giving a message, they are engaging and humanizing.

Using stories in speeches, sales and conversations captivates the listener. They are more likely to get your message, relate to your point or take the desired action.

Stories have also resulted in other outcomes. In Boston, a group of homeless people formed a book club. Reading stories has captivated the participants’ imaginations. They focus on literature rather than their drug and alcohol addictions.

Stories are not just for children. Hewitt knew this. We, too, have discovered this message over the years.
