Not all heroes wear capes. Our service men and women are trained to support one another. They are taught to watch each other’s back and collaborate to carry out a mission.

I wish to honor the reactions of those who responded so quickly and heroically to the recent tragedy at Fort Hood.

We can apply several of the military principles to our organizations and relationships.

  • Common Vision What would it mean to your organization if everyone had one common vision and focused their goals and efforts on achieving it?
  • Protecting Each Other By looking out for one another’s safety and having each other’s back, we could have difficult conversations without attacking the other person or making them wrong.

We could create opportunities to express different viewpoints or to disagree without fear. Trust would increase.

  • Teamwork Working together as a unified force to respond quickly and effectively to whatever situation may arise creates flexibility and makes us more competitive.

Our service men and women exhibit courage, selflessness, commitment and focus. By following this philosophy we could support one another in fulfilling a common purpose and goals.
