Lately I have been in a lot of airports. In some of the ladies’ rooms, fresh flowers in vases sit on the counters by the sinks. This unexpected touch always brightens up the place.

Like the flowers, we can change and brighten our environment. A welcoming smile, a good morning greeting, an offer to support a busy colleague are ways to brighten other peoples’ worlds. Sending an e-card of thanks or putting a post it note expressing appreciation on a co-worker’s desk can trigger a smile.

These gestures are easy to overlook because they seem so basic or we are so busy. Especially in these challenging times, unexpected acknowledgements can mean a lot.

You don’t have to send flowers for people to blossom. What can you do to create a positive environment and brighten someone’s world today?
