As a resident of the Buckeye state, our citizens have been exuberant that LeBron James is returning home to Cleveland to play for the Cavaliers.

In addition to being a story about a return to one’s roots, it is a heartfelt, real life example of the power of forgiveness.

After serious bad mouthing and jersey burning when he left, both the fans and owner, Dan Gilbert, asked for forgiveness from LeBron in order to move forward. In addition, LeBron acknowledged his poor past handling of the departure to Miami.

“Everyone makes mistakes; I’ve made mistakes as well. Who am I to hold a grudge,” LeBron said in a Sports Illustrated article.

The power of forgiveness has allowed people to move forward and create a new beginning. Holding on to the past can be damaging and be a barrier to future growth.

When we hold anger toward a boss, colleague, former partner, relative or situation, we often create toxicity for ourselves. Letting go and releasing is the first step toward building a bridge.

LeBron’s story is an inspiring example of remembering from where you came and having the courage to be true to yourself and to do what it takes to forgive and press reset.
