How often have you had the experience that when you go to an unknown place getting there seems so much longer than returning?

This happens when I ride my bike on new trails or drive to places where I have never been.

When we try new things, like when we are going to a new place, the path is unfamiliar. We don’t have landmarks or experience to guide us. The road feels uncertain and can take longer.

Upon returning we have a vision, we have traveled the road and it is recognizable. With experience, we have a set of expectations. We can navigate easier with direction, clarity and vision. This knowledge can increase the speed of our results.

Setting expectations, like landmarks, provides guidance. They help us to navigate and know if we are heading in the desired direction.

Next time you are trying something new or assigning a new project, I encourage you to obtain or provide guidelines and checkpoints where possible. It will increase the speed of travel.
